Broccoli is a very hardy vegetable and great for growing in the Fall and Winter! Learn the best ways to plant it, keep it alive and eventually harvest it!
Yes! Broccoli needs more space than most vegetables, so be sure that the container you get is at least 3 gallons large. Broccoli also needs rich soil and plenty of water, but make sure it has lots of drainage as well!
It depends on the variety of Broccoli you are planting and if you are planting from seed or starters. If planting from seed, you will need to plant them indoors at least 4-7 weeks before the last frost. After they have grown to seedlings, re-plant them outside in your pot 2-3 weeks before the last frost. Most varieties of broccoli take around 55 days to mature.
Broccoli needs FULL sun!
Strange’s West Broad carries (while supplies last):
Green Magic: Smooth, nicely domed heads and very heat tolerant with a great buttery flavor. Many growers favorite!
Pac Man: This variety grows to about 27” tall with a head of about 9″. These are mildly flavored and great to freeze and save for later!
We also carry a variety of Broccoli seeds, if you prefer to start there:
